Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.
Marcus wrote this line as a rule for leadership. As emperor, he saw countless flaws — in others, and in himself. He believed in patience with people, but discipline with his own behaviour. The Stoic is not self-righteous. They forgive outwardly and refine inwardly. They hold the mirror to themselves, not others. It is this posture that makes Stoicism not just powerful — but kind.
Give grace outward. Demand growth inward.
"Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be."
